Interpreting the Work Entitlement Check Results

Each of the results of a Work Entitlement Check.

Updated over 9 months ago

When a Work Entitlement Check is completed for a Foreign Citizen there are multiple possible results. Let's break down what each result indicates.

Australian Citizen

The employee has declared that they are an Australian Citizen and provided evidence to support their declaration. Once verified, they have full working rights in Australia.

Unlimited

The employee is a Visa holder, has full working rights in Australia and has no limitations on their work entitlement.

Limited

The employee has limitations to their work entitlement in Australia. Each Limited result will indicate what limitations the employee has. You can find more information under Check Details in the Work Entitlement Check.

No Valid Visa

The employee does not have a valid visa and cannot work in Australia.

There are exceptions for No Valid Visa with a New Zealand passport, click here to find out more.

NIL Work Entitlement

The employee is on a visa but does not have valid working rights in Australia. You can find more information under Check Details in the Work Entitlement Check.

Unable to Check

The VEVO Work Entitlement result was unable to be retrieved, usually due to a typo or similar clerical issue.

VEVO Error

The employee's work entitlement results are inconclusive and the result cannot be determined due to an error with the VEVO checking system at the Department of Home Affairs.

We recheck these automatically every 24 hours but please reach out to the CheckWorkRights team if an employee remains in this status for more than a few days.
